Another day trip. This one to the large town of Dieppe. The main incentives for visiting Dieppe was the chateau and the harbor. The chateau sat high on a hill overlooking the city and the long beach. And it was quite dramatic.

Turned out, though, that the inside was yet another fine arts museum. Nothing on the inside looked original to the castle. Even the staircase looked much newer than the castle, with some modern art on display.

Porcelains and other art objects.
One of the more interesting exhibits was the Ivory exhibit. Ivory workers worked hear during the 1800’s carved ivory was a desired commodity. Some of the items were exquisite.
At the base of the castle hill was a memorial park dedicated to the Canadians who fought near here during the Battle for Normandy.

From there we walked down into town where we stopped at the Saint James Cathedral.

We then headed farther on to the island that is known as the old fishermen’s area.
We found a Lebanese restaurant for lunch. We can almost always find good vegetarian food at these.

We found these old gate towers.
We took a little train ride around town. It passed some of the areas we had already walked but no big deal. It did stop at a viewpoint overlooking the castle, the town and the beach.
The train ride also took us right under some of the massive white cliffs.
After the train ride we headed over to the beach with the white cliffs at the end…
and lots of beach huts.
