May 13 – Cap Fréhel, Moncontour and Perros-Guirec

Today we are on the road again, driving the coastline of Brittany.  Our first stop was Cap Fréhel.  We had a bit of a walk from the parking lot to the lighthouse.  And it was a difficult walk.  The path was fine and relatively level.  But the wind seemed to be gale force.  At times it was hard to walk a straight line. 

We made it to the lighthouse and the coastline is gorgeous with very steep cliffs and rocky shorelines. But we both decided that it was too windy and cold to do any more hiking.  Just didn’t have warm enough coats and the winds were even harder out by the coast. 

As we headed inland for our next stop it was hard to miss all the wildflowers along the roadside.

Our inland destination was another Les Plus Beaux Village, Moncontour.  The streets were very narrow and windy but we quickly found a parking spot on the main square of the town. 

The Church of St. Mathurin was right on the square so it was our first stop.  The church was simple…

but had some lovely stained-glass windows.

From there we walked the town.  To bad it was so dreary and overcast.  The town would have looked more cheery on a sunny day.  But it was still fun to explore.  

As we were looking for a place for lunch we saw a café sign.  Turned out it was a sewing shop that served tea.  The proprietress was friendly and offered us tea, which we declined.  She did point us in the direction of a restaurant.

After lunch we walked some more.  There were a lot of lovely, old signs at the various shops.

And there were a lot of flowers growing out of the stone walls. 

Loved the quaint doors and windows.

After working our way out of town we headed out again towards Plougrescant where we visited a site called Le Gouffre.  A magnificent section of coast dominated by huge boulders and lots of waves.

This house is called the House between Two Rocks…for obvious reasons.

There was a nice beach.

Our destination today was Perros-Guirec and our hotel is right on the waterfront. 

We had great views of the harbor from our window.  The sheltered harbor had a lot of boats in it and the tide was in.

We took a short walk around the area before dinner. 

We had dinner tonight at the hotel as there wasn’t much else around.  And we splurged on desert.  The Kouign-Amann was accompanied by a scoop of mystery ice cream and mystery nut butter.  The Kouign-Amann was fresh and warm and much better than the sample we had in St. Malo.
