June 12 – Beynac-et-Cazenac

Our little house is on a street the parallels the riverside road.  So, first thing this morning we headed up the street (and then down) in the opposite direction from yesterday’s walk.  Photos from our walk through the streets.

The street eventually took us down to the main road.  The street wasn’t quite as steep as yesterday’s walk, but it was still a climb on the way back.

We headed to the far end of town where we visit the boulangerie for some breakfast…some very large and very good pain au chocolate (chocolate croissants).  Then we stopped at the small market there where we bought breakfast items, some fruit, and a few items to make taco soup and some sandwiches.  The shop was quite small, though, so we will need to find a larger market somewhere to get the rest of the soup ingredients.

Beynac-et-Cazenac is right along the river.  There is just enough room for the road and then a wall of houses and buildings.  Most of them don’t look like they are in use, but it is hard to tell in France as almost everywhere they shutter the windows.  During the summer it probably helps keep the interior cool.  Very few places here have air conditioning as generally the summer temperatures don’t get too hot.

We spend most of the day in the room working on photos and travel issues. We have a very nice, large terrace so we will likely have some of our meals out there.
