June 27 – Albi

Today we are walking Albi.  Unfortunately, it is again a very hot day.  We headed first towards the river.  Ended up with a very long walk down the side of the hill to the river.  Fortunately, it was shady.

We walked the river for a while and ended up near the Old Bridge, a beautiful old structure.

From there we headed up the hill, taking photos of the town.

At the top of the hill was the St. Cecile Cathedral.  It claims to be the largest brick building in the France.  It is so very imposing.  Exterior.

Interior.  The interior is so very different from many of the cathedrals that we have visited.  Much of the decorations are paintings/murals.  It was gorgeous.

From there we caught the Petit Train for a ride around Albi.  Lots to see.

The train ride gave us a view of the cathedral from across the river.

After the ride we had lunch at a hotel in the main square and then headed to the Henri Toulouse-Lautrec museum.  It is housed in the old Bishop’s Palace.  Beautiful old building.

Toulouse-Lautrec was born in Albi and his family donated their large collection of his works to Albi for a museum.

The museum boasts the largest collection of his works in the world. Some of the works by Toulouse-Lautrec.

It was so very hot again today.  To translate, 46C (upper left corner) is almost 115F.

So, we treated ourselves to banana splits.

Then headed back to the car and were soon on our way to our next destination.

A lovely round-about.

We arrived in Narbonne late in the afternoon.  We ended up skipping dinner.  Too much ice cream.
