We have breakfast available in the hotel. Among many other things there are a lot of baguettes available (cut your own piece)…
and massive mounds of lovely French butter, both salted and unsalted.
Honfleur is to be our base for a couple of day trips and for work. So, today we decided to tackle one of the day trips…Pont L’Eveque, a small town not far away. We found street parking and headed out to see if we could find the old section of town. Turned out it was just down the street. Lots of half-timbered houses on narrow streets...
a few shops displaying their wares on the sidewalks,
and we saw a couple of the three small rivers flowing through town.
We found a “Dandelion” fountain in one of the intersections. A very modern addition in an old town.
We also found St. Michel’s Church. The 15th century church was severely damaged during fighting in World War II but has been fully restored.
The stained-glass windows are very modern.
We saw the Music School (exterior)...
with the Brossard Fountain in its plaza. The story behind this is that the Viscount Léonce de Brossard died young and his mother built the fountain in his memory, in part because he had planned to bring water to the town).
There were a lot of these birds along the banks of one of the rivers. We were never able to identify them but they might be magpies.
We finished quite early in Pont L’Eveque so we decided to do our second day trip that day…the town of Deauville. It was only about a 15 minute drive. We found parking thanks to Google maps.
About a half block from the parking lot we stumbled upon the market square.
A full blown market was underway. A lot of clothing...
and lots of food items.

After enjoying the market, we found a nearby place for lunch. We bought a large baguette sandwich with butter, ham and cheese, combined all the cheese on one side and all the ham on the other so we each got a sandwich we liked.
From there we
spent time wandering around the town. There
were a lot of half-timbered buildings in this older section of town.
We wanted to take the elevator up to the top of the Belvederes de la Presqu’île (towers overlooking the harbor) but the ticket machines weren’t working.

From there we walked to the beach. It is huge and is actually a sandy beach, unlike most of the pebble beaches we have seen in Normandy so far.
There was a huge boardwalks with bathing huts lines up on it. The little "fences" beside each hut was named after famous movie stars.
Lots of beach umbrellas with side flaps that make them look like little bathing huts.
There were the X and Y sculptures.
And we opted for an ice cream at the beach.
And we so so many people walking around with baguettes or baguette sandwiches.
From there we headed back to the car. On the walk we found this street that was obviously the street for high end shopping. We saw an Hermes shop, Louis Vuitton and others.
This is what the market square looked like when we got back to the square. Hard to believe it was teaming with life a few hours ago.
We were back in Honfleur by late afternoon. We eventually found a restaurant that had something besides seafood.
